Booksweet is open for business! Hours: Sunday-Wednesday, 10 am-6 pm and Thursday-Saturday, 10 am-8 pm.
Thanks to the support and help from our friends, family, and community, we opened our doors on Friday, August 6 at 10 am and had an incredible opening weekend chatting with you. Thank you to everyone who popped in to say hello to the new kids on the block. Even MLive popped by for some opening day photos of Team Booksweet. Honestly: we’re flattered, delighted, and can’t wait to hear what you thought of the reads you picked up.
We hope to see you all at the free Community Open House this Thursday, August 12 from 5-8 pm, featuring:
- 5:15 pm: A “Reading Rainbow”-like story time experience with Mr. Will Jones from Black Men Read, sharing stories from the African diaspora for our youngest readers.
- 6 pm poetry by Yasmine Rukia, a first generation Lebanese-American experimental poet based in Dearborn, Michigan. Her work was featured internationally at the Seven Gardens Artist residency in 2019 (Kerman, Iran) where she served as an Artist-Fellow. She’s published in the Black Warrior Review, BELT Magazine, PAPERMAG, Mizna, Jaffat Al-aqlam, BAHR magazine, The Gordon Square review, Tinderbox poetry, and elsewhere.
- 6:30-7:30 pm: Live music by local songwriter, producer, and live-looping vocalist Ki5 (Kyler Wilkins).
[Note: Originally, we were planning to enjoy poetry by Tarik Dobbs at this event, but due to unforeseen circumstances we need to welcome them back to Booksweet another time. Look for an event announcement in October/November 2021.]
Please take a peek at our shop health and safety info to make sure we can have fun together and keep one another safe and feeling great.
With the help of our community, we’re finding our sea legs. Keep your ideas, suggestions, and feedback coming! We love it — and want to make sure Your Community Bookshop really feels that way: yours.
Hope to see you soon!
