SUMMARY:4/9: Thursday Murder Mystery Book Club at Booksweet
DESCRIPTION:4/9: Thursday Murder Mystery Book Club at Booksweet \nJoin us at Booksweet for our next Thursday Mystery Book Club! Get ready to dive into thrilling mysteries\, discuss your favorite sleuth novels\, and meet fellow armchair detectives. Whether you’re a seasoned mystery reader or just starting to explore the genre\, this club is the perfect place to share your thoughts\, theories\, and suspicions about all things mysterious. \nFor our next mystery book club\, we’ll discuss Bluebird Bluebird by Attica Locke. We’re meeting on Thursday April 9th from 7pm to 8pm. \nYour Eventbrite RSVP is so helpful to our planning! \nAbout the book \nA “heartbreakingly resonant” thriller about the explosive intersection of love\, race\, and justice from a writer and producer of the Emmy-winning Fox TV show Empire (USA Today). \n“In Bluebird\, Bluebird Attica Locke had both mastered the thriller and exceeded it.”-Ann Patchett \nWhen it comes to law and order\, East Texas plays by its own rules — a fact that Darren Mathews\, a black Texas Ranger\, knows all too well. Deeply ambivalent about growing up black in the lone star state\, he was the first in his family to get as far away from Texas as he could. Until duty called him home. \nWhen his allegiance to his roots puts his job in jeopardy\, he travels up Highway 59 to the small town of Lark\, where two murders — a black lawyer from Chicago and a local white woman — have stirred up a hornet’s nest of resentment. Darren must solve the crimes — and save himself in the process — before Lark’s long-simmering racial fault lines erupt. From a writer and producer of the Emmy winning Fox TV show Empire\, Bluebird\, Bluebird is a rural noir suffused with the unique music\, color\, and nuance of East Texas. \nSo… what’s this book club like? \nWe hope to invite a group of people who have read the book (or don’t mind a spoiler) to discuss their thoughts. We will bring prompts but invite anyone to pose a question or share their thoughts! \nAfter our discussion\, the group votes on the next session’s read. Feel free to pitch a novel you’ve enjoyed recently and would like to share with the group\, or bring a favorite that you want to share with others! \nWhile we will have water and light refreshments (including gluten-free and nut-fred options)\, Booksweet is located in The Courtyard Shops\, filled with excellent dining options. Food and drinks are totally welcome at the meet-up; don’t feel shy about sipping boba while we chat! \nWe can’t wait to do some sleuthing with you!
